How to Remove Wax Melts | How to Clean a Wax Melter

How can you not fall in love with wax melts? The long lasting, beautiful aromas and inexpensive cost makes them a perfect solution for home fragrance.

One bar can typically cost in the region of £3.50 and it should provide up to 90 hours of beautiful aromas. We recommend using two cubes for a maximum of four hours in one go.

At Soapfullness we use soy wax for our wax melts. Soy wax is a natural soft wax which means when it comes to removing the wax melts, its fairly easy.

Soy Wax provide long clean burn and it is amazing for producing strongly fragranced wax melts.  Soy Wax is a natural wax derived from natural resources and is 100% biodegradable and environmentally friendly, which is why we love it.

How to use Wax Melts

Wax melts are great because they provide lovely strong aromas that can last up to 90 hours.

We recommend using two cubes at one for a maximum of four hours. The great thing about wax melts is that you can remelt them a couple of times until the fragrance isn’t as string as you wish.

This makes our wax melts excellent value for money. One wax melt bar one ten squares typically cost £3.50 and lasts 60-90 hours.

So how do you remove wax melts when you have finished with them?

We agree getting solid wax out can be difficult and frustrating.

You don’t want to scoop out the wax melts as you don’t want to damage the wax melt burner, but equally you don’t want to get the wax melts out in a hot liquid state.

Remove Wax Melts

There are a couple options listed below which will allow you to easily get your wax melts out. It’s down to you to decide which works best for you.

The Traditional Method - Remove Wax Melts in 3 Simple Steps

1. Distinguish you tealights

2. Let the wax cool but not harden.

Ensure that the wax melt burner is not hot when you touch it. If it is, let it cool down and then

You can then either:

a. Grab some kitchen roll and wrap you fingers around in the kitchen roll. Then gently pull the wax away from the wax melt dish.  The wax should come off easily, especially as we use Soy Wax which is a soft wax.

b. Let the wax melts get to liquid stage but not for very long as you don’t want to be touching hot liquid.  Grab some kitchen roll or cotton balls and allow it to absorb the wax.

c. Let the wax become hard, and gently scoop it out. We use Soy wax for our wax melts which is a soft wax and easy to scoop out.

3. Wash your wax melt burner in warm soapy water.

Remember to have a separate sponge to wash your wax burner with.

You do not want any fragrance oils to mix in with your kitchen utensils or mixing into your food/drink sources. Digesting any fragrance oils can be hazardous. Please ensure that you use a separate washing up sponge.

Remove Wax Melts

Sounds a little odd right? But if you have a wide piece of ribbon, you can place it into the middle of wax melt burner dish when the wax melts are still liquid and when the candle is not alight (fire risk).

Simply allow the wax melts to cool down and solidify and you can then use the ribbon to pull out the solid piece of wax melts.

This is a nice easy way to remove wax melts.

Remove Wax Melts

You will see on so many websites that people recommend putting your wax melt burner in the freezer.

People think this is a great way because it makes the wax very easy to get out. The wax solidifies and it will just pop out without much mess.

Sounds great right?

Well sadly it isn’t. Whilst we love the concept of little mess and an easy way to remove wax melts, this way can be very damaging for your wax melt burner and dish.

Wax Melt burners are not made to withstand such cold temperatures. This can cause your wax melt burner to experience temperature stress and in turn it will create hairline fractures or even break your wax melt burner over time.

If your wax melt burner does experience any form of hairline fracture or cracks, it is NOT safe to use and will become a high fire hazard. You will need to immediately dispose of your wax melt burner and purchase a new one.

Even if the wax melt burner doesn’t experience sudden cracks or fractures, it will certainly shorten the life span considerably.

As general care of your wax melt burners you should be observing for any faults such as cracks and fractures to ensure safe usage of your wax melt burner.

Please do not use this method to remove wax melts. It just isn’t safe.

We hope that you find it easy to remove wax melts.
